Section 8: Plumbing System
Automotive antifreeze (ethylene glycol) and windshield washer anti-
freeze (methanol) are poisonous. Never use these products in your fresh
water system. These products are harmful and may be fatal if swallowed
Never apply air pressure to the water system with any of the valves
in the closed position
. Air pressure applied to a closed valve, faucet or
low point drain could potentially damage the seals and cause water leaks.
If you have questions, consult with your RV dealer.
Recommended pressure is 30 PSI, exceeding this pressure may rup-
ture water line couplings and void your warranty.
Air Pressure Method
This method utilizes a blowout plug, an air compressor and an air hose to remove excess
water out of the water lines.
1. Water heater power should be OFF (both ELECTRIC and GAS switches).
2. Set water heater bypass valves to
BYPASS
. Refer to the appropriat
e water heater
bypass
diagram for your model.
3.
There are two valves, a fresh water tank shutoff and a siphon valve, located next to the
water pump (
Fig 2
). Both valves should be turned OFF.
4. I
n Fig 2, the tank shutoff is OFF, and the siphon valve is ON.
5. Level the RV and drain the fresh water tank, water
heater and hot and cold water lines. Open all low
point drains and fresh water tank drain. Faucets
inside the RV need to be opened also to relieve
pressure and allow lines to drain. Refer to
Drain
-
ing the Fresh Water System
section.
6. Remove the drain plug from the water heater (refer
to
Fig. 3
arrow).
7. Run the water pump until it is dry (approximately
15 to 20 seconds). Operating the pump longer than
that with no water in it can damage the pump.
8. Open all faucets in the RV. If there is an outside shower, attach the show-
er hose to the shower (remove the sprayer nozzle), and open the shower
faucets. If equipped with an outside kitchen open those faucets as well.
9. Attach a blowout plug to the city water inlet (on utility center). Attach
the air hose to the blowout plug. Set compressor to
30 PSI MAX.
Set
the CITY / TANK FILL valve on the utility center panel to the
TANK
FILL
position.
10. Open the fresh water tank drain. Blow air into the water lines for 30 to 60 seconds to
clear out the water tank. Do not blow air into the tank any longer than 60 seconds to
avoid pressurizing the water tank and damaging fittings.
11.
Open all fixtures and drains in the RV to allow air to escape the water lines. Set the
CITY / TANK FILL valve on the utility center panel to the
CITY
position and blow air
into the water lines at
30 PSI MAX
.
