TRANSMISSION AND CONTROLS
6-10
When the shift lever is shifted into
“R”
, the parking aid system is
activated and the sensors in the rear bumper detect the distance to
any obstacle. When an obstacle is detected, the alarm sounds and
the EL display shows the rear area.
The alarm interval becomes faster and the number of bars on the
EL display decreases as your vehicle approaches the object.

EL display
The EL display shows (in bars) the vehicle’s
distance from obstacles. For more information,
refer to “Parking Aid System Display.”
Obstacle Sensor
The sensor informs you of the
vehicle’s distance from the
obstacle. However, it cannot
sense thin and narrow objects,
such as wires, ropes, or chains.
PARKING AID SYSTEM*
z
The alarm does not sound if the distance between sensor and
obstacle is less than 25 cm. However, if the sensor detects the
obvious obstacle, the alarm stays on.
z
Do not rely on the parking aid system while the shift lever is in the “R”
position. Drive backward while checking the rear side of your vehicle.
z
If the alarm sounds for 3 seconds when you select the “R” posi-
tion with the engine running or ignition “ON”, it means that there is
a malfunction in the system.
