Troubleshooting
This section may help you isolate the problem. Should
the problem persist, unplug the unit and contact your
Sony dealer or local authorized Sony service facility.
Possible cause
Wrong connection.
No power is provided to video camera
and/or monitor TV.
No cassette.
Moisture condensation has occurred.
The VCR is in the alarm recording.
The security lock function is working.
The VCR is in timer-recording standby
mode or during timer recording.
The safety tab on the cassette has been
removed.
Alarm recording was made during repeat
recording.
REPEAT REC is set to OFF.
Clock setting is not correct.
TIMER is not set to ON.
Video heads are dirty.
The time/date display is not displayed.
System trouble.
The power of the equipment to be used
is not turned on.
There is a problem with your unit.
Corrective action
Check the connection. (See page 8.)
Turn on the power.
Insert a cassette.
Leave the VCR until its temperature
reaches the room temperature. (See
page 17.)
Wait for the alarm recording to finish.
Release the security lock. (See page
15.)
Set TIMER to OFF.
Cover the tab hole with plastic tape.

This is normal.
Set REPEAT REC to ON. (See page
16.)
Set the clock correctly. (See page 11.)
Set TIMER to ON. (See page 20.)
Clean the video heads.
Set the time/date display. (See page
12.)
Set ON-SCREEN to ON. (See page 12.)
Turn the power off and on again to reset
the system.
Turn on the power.
Please contact your Sony dealer.
Symptom
The picture does not appear on the
monitor screen.
The VCR does not respond when you
press any button.
Recording cannot be done. (The tape
ejects automatically.)
Repeat recording cannot be done.
Timer recording was not made.
Playback picture flickers or blurs.
Time and date were not recorded.
The tape does not eject.
The VCR does not function except to
play back the tape.
The ERROR display appears on the
screen.
