The Microphone
Never use the internal camera microphone as your primary source of audio. Use
the Sony ECM-VG1 super-cardioid mono condenser microphone. This is a
reasonable option for recording if the subject is close to the camera (speaking no
more than 6ft to 8ft away and directly at the camera).
The microphone is directional: what the camera is pointing at will be recorded.
Because the microphone is mounted on the camera it will pick up some camera
noise and fan noise.
The camera has a rubber adapter to fit
the microphone in the holder. Use it
for other hyper cardioid type of
microphones as well. The Sennheiser
416 can be used directly on the
camera, for example.
