4-5. FUNCTION DESCRIPTION OF FM-63 BOARD
Functional outline of FM-63 board

During release, the input video signal from the camera display (IC203 on the CA-
31 board) is passed through IC401 and directly written in frame memories IC404
and IC405 according to the YUV 4:2:2 format.

During recording, the video data loaded into frame memories IC404 and IC405 is
read in the order required for DCT operation in the compression REC mode and
output to the JPEG coder (IC003 on the SY-264 board). In the non-compression
REC mode, the data is converted from YC data to RGB data and output to CPU
DRAMs (IC013 and IC014 on the SY-264 board).
A thumbnail picture is produced in IC401 by reading video data from frame
memories.

During playback of the compressed picture, the video data input from a JPEG
coder (IC003 on the SY-264 board) is output to frame memories IC404 and IC405
while it is returned to the former order. Next, the video data is read from the
frame memories for size conversion and output video memory IC403.
Simultaneously at that time, the signal format is converted from YUV 4:2:2 to
4:2:0.
During playback of the non-compressed picture, the video data input from CPU
DRAMs (IC013 and IC014 on the SY-264 board) is converted from RGB to YUV
by IC401 and output to video memory IC403.
The video data read from video memory IC403 is also input to encoder IC402 and
output from IC402 in the form of an analog signal as an NTSC or PAL signal.
Moreover, the recorded picture can also be rotated by changing the read direction
of data from frame memories.

In the EE mode of a camera signal, the input picture data from the camera display
(IC203 on the CA-31 board) is written in video memory IC403 via the picture size
conversion filter in IC401.
Next, the video data read from video memory IC403 is input to encoder IC402 and
output from IC402 in the form of an analog signal as an NTSC or PAL signal.
The frame rate of the input and output pictures in this video memory is 1:1 (30
frames per second for NTSC and 25 frames per second for PAL).
