RM-4C8
WITH RM-HDE1, RM-E1X OR RM-E1B
Reference Monitor RM-4C8 with an RM-E1X, RM-E1B or
RM-HDE1 Dolby Decoder Expansion Card
Operation of The RM-4C8 With The RM-E1X or RM-E1B Fitted
When the RM-4C8 is fitted with an RM-E1X or RM-E1B expansion card, it can be used
to decode and monitor Dolby® E or Dolby Digital encoded AES-3 audio streams. These
streams are decoded and monitored as either a stereo downmix of the selected program or
the full channel compliment so that each individual channel can be separately monitored
and metered. It can also be used to monitor a standard digital audio input if needed.
The expansion card input, EX A, is selected via the front panel Bank selection control. When
selected, the front panel buttons INV and M+S have dual functionality. If normal PCM audio
is detected on the input, then these buttons operate normally as INV and M+S illuminated
orange. When a Dolby encoded format is detected then their secondary function becomes
active and the buttons illuminate green. The secondary functions of the INV and M+S
buttons are PROGS (Programs) and CHANS (Channels) respectively and are used to indicate
and control monitoring of the multichannel audio.
When Bank EX A is selected, the CHANS button flashes green to indicate that a
multichannel format is detected and the downmix is being monitored. When the PROGS
button is flashing green, this indicates that a Dolby E format has been detected. If neither
button is flashing then no Dolby Encoded stream is detected on the input and the audio is
treated as PCM. The modes and the button states are shown in the table below.
