Zorro
1.2 Pilot Profile
ZORRO is suitable for intermediate to expert pilots. It is an
all-terrain wing of reflex design offering excellent cruise capa
-
bility and high speeds, making it ideal for cross country flights.
ZORRO’s turn characteristics mean that this is also a really fun
wing to fly.
Matching pilot skill level to wing loading is an important factor
for safe and manageable flight.
Wing loading plays a large part in how ZORRO handles in
flight and should always be considered when choosing which
size ZORRO to fly.
Steering at higher speeds is accomplished by use of the tip
steering system which offers responsive and efficient turn rates
without any destabilisation of the foil. Inadvertent use of the
main brake controls whilst flying on fast trim does not however
destabilise the profile. This is a very important innovation and
safety feature making ZORRO an ideal first time reflex wing,
offering the intermediate pilot who is unfamiliar with dual
steering systems high levels of forgiveness.
1.3 Certification
ZORRO has passed certification according to EN 926-1 and
DGAC ULM De Classe-1.
The load test was carried out in the Swiss Air-Turquoise
laboratories in Switzerland. Load test passed at 1360kg.
Note:
Any alteration of the paraglider can invalidate all the
aforementioned certifications.
1.4 Scope of delivery

1.5 Characteristics
For the PPG pilot, the take-off and landing phase are crucial
and ZORRO’s design is such that launching and landing are
both straight forward and predictable. Because ZORRO incor
-
porates our Skyflex Active Foil System (SAFS) reflex technolo
-
gy, a wide range of speed, glide and climb rates are available
to the pilot. A good sink/climb rate to allow for manageable and
moderate take-off and landing speeds with good flair charac
-
teristics and short take off distances is possible with ZORRO,
even in nil wind when set to standard or slow trim.
Once airborne, stable and faster airspeeds can be achieved
by accelerating the wing via the trim system, and further with
the speed bar, utilising the SAFS.
Both pitch and roll are well damped to offer comfort and safe
-
ty, even at high speeds. Steering at higher speeds is accom
-
plished by use of the tip steering system which offers respon
-
sive steering control.
1.6 Features
• ZORRO features a composite leading edge (Mylar & Nylon
rods) to assist inflation by presenting the open leading
edge to the airflow, even in nil wind, as well as creating an
efficient & clean profile.
• Skytex 38 fabric is used for both top and bottom surfac
-
es. Skytex was chosen for its excellent moisture repellent
properties as well as for durability. Being moisture repellent
means that the gliders launch and flight characteristics are
improved if launching from dew laden grass, as is so often
the case for early morning or late evening flights.
1. GENERAL
INFORMATION
1.1 Operating limits
All wings have their limitations, from paragliders to fighter jets.
ZORRO is no exception; ZORRO does provide high levels
of solid stable flight, especially when flown at accelerated
speed. The ZORRO Skyflex profile is that of a reflex design
but this does not mean that ZORRO is invincible to all levels of
turbulence. Flying in turbulent air, whether it be strong thermic
conditions, areas of mechanical turbulence caused by terrain
or wind shear, should be avoided whilst flying any ramair wing
so as to remove the risk of inadvertent and unexpected wing
collapse. ZORRO’s wing solidity will tolerate and damp out
certain amounts of turbulence, and produce high levels of
comfort, however the pilot should always fly well within the
wings limitations with adequate minimum safe altitude. It must
be noted that a wing collapse at high accelerated speed will be
dynamic incurring height loss before recovery.
ZORRO is a very strong paraglider and flying all the usual
SIV manoeuvres will not normally pose a structural problem.
However, frequent extreme manoeuvres training can accelerate
the ageing process dramatically, and Sky recommends having
wings that are often used for SIV-type manoeuvres subjected to
check-ups at shorter intervals than normally stipulated
Correct behaviour in relation to the environment
It is important that we as pilots behave in a responsible way
towards both the environment and the people sharing it with
us. We encourage you to treat nature with respect, to avoid
unnecessary noise, to never litter and to observe all local
regulations. Please also make sure to comply with legislation
regarding protected areas, privately owned property or hunting
areas – this ensures the least possible friction in relation to other
users of the great outdoors, to the benefit of both yourself and
the sport as a whole.
