MODULATING GAS VALVE
RANGE 90 – 210 DEGREES (F)
WARNING! The modulating gas valve is designed to fluctuate with the heaters fuel source to maintain
the temperature that you select. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE GRAIN CONDITION IS YOURS!
APPLICATION The modulating valve is intended to automatically control the flow of gas to your
heater. It can be used on natural gas or LP systems. However, natural gas systems normally have a larger
gas train manifold; most commonly ¾”.
When the modulating valve sensing bulb reacts to a change in air temperature, it causes the valve to open
and close, adjusting the flow of gas to the heater. The standard operating range for this valve is 90 to 210
degrees (F).
SHIPPING, RECEIVING AND INSPECTION
Modulating gas valves are shipped installed from the factory, with the sensing bulb and capillary tubing
secured to the front of the heater. The mount plate and thermometer will be located in shipping carton
normally secured to top of heater for shipping purposes. Inspect complete heater for damage, noting any
found on freight bill.
INSTALLATION
WARNING! Before installing the valve, disconnect and lock out all power to heater!
Handle the sensing bulb and capillary tubing with care not to kink or damage.
Note: Before choosing where to mount the sensing bulb to the bin, be sure the capillary tubing of the
valve will reach the desired location. The preinstalled capillary tubing will reach approximately 9’-6”.
The mount plate for the sensing bulb should be installed on the bin sidewall between the perforated floor
and the concrete foundation, as far as the tubing will allow, to the side of the transition. Location of the
½” holes is critical for proper alignment with the thermometer stem. Improper alignment will damage the
thermometer.
Using the mount as a template, mark the bin and drill one (1) ½” hole for the thermometer and one (1)
13/16” hole for the sensing bulb. Mount the plate with self-drilling screws.
CAUTION! Do not kink or sharply bend the capillary tubing. Secure excess capillary tubing to avoid
vibrations. Do not allow capillary to rub surface where friction can damage the tubing.
When placing the sensing bulb into the mount, take careful note of the word “Top” imprinted on the bulb,
where the capillary tube ends and bulb begins. For proper operation be sure to mount as such. Use
provided thumb screw to mount, placing as much of the bulb into the bin as possible but enough to secure
to mount.
