Creating Partitions under Windows 2000/XP Professional
After installing a new hard disk it is necessary to create partitions if the partitions
contain errors or need to be changed.
Caution
All stored data is lost when you delete or create partitions. The hard disk partitions
will be erased.
The hard disk is partitioned on delivery as follows (only for versions delivered with
Windows):
– one partition with the FAT32 file system with at least 6100 Mbytes,
– one partition with the NTFS file system.
To restore the partition to its delivery state, proceed as follows:
Primary Partition, FAT32 File System
1. Insert the Recovery CD into your CD-ROM drive and start the device.
2. To boot from the Recovery CD, press the ESC key when the BIOS message:
Press <F2> to enter Setup
is displayed. On the completion of initialization, a ”Boot Menu” appears.
3. Select the ”CD-ROM Drive” with the cursor.
4. Select ”2. Boot for FDISK, FORMAT or Windows 2000 Setup” or
“2. Boot for FDISK, FORMAT or Windows XP Professional Setup”
in the ”Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Menu” screen form.
5. Start the Microsoft Windows hard disk configuration program with ”A:\>FDisk”.
In the screen form select “Do you wish to enable large disk support (Y/N)...?
[ Y ]” for Yes to support data media with large memory capacity.
6. Create a primary DOS partition with 4090 MB. Enter [N] for “No” for the
question ”Do you want to use the maximum memory size available for the
primary DOS partition and do you want to activate this partition?” and set the
partition size to 10245 MB.
7. To format the partition from the Recovery CD, as described above in steps 1 to
3, reboot and then format drive C: with the “Format” program. Enter:
”A:\>Format C:”
(A: is the CD-ROM drive).
