Local flow control normally does not have to be activated except when op-
erating low-memory V.24 terminals (in connection with Gigaset M101
Data). Activating local flow control can help in the event of data transmis-
sion problems (e.g. sending faxes, operating a serial printer).
When local flow control is active, the Gigaset M105 Data unit connected
to the V.24 terminal immediately stops outputting data in the direction of
the terminal when a STOP signal is received and saves this data in its
own memory. This ensures that the PC only sends data that can be proc-
essed by the transmission route (saved). If local flow control is not acti-
vated, the V.24 terminal’s STOP signal is transferred to the PC. During
this time (less than 10 ms), the PC continues to send data. All of this data
is output by the Gigaset M101 Data unit in the direction of the V.24 termi-
nal. If the terminal does not have sufficient memory to receive this data,
the data is lost.
