Notes for safe operation in hazardous areas
Type of explosion protection: Ex ia [ia] I Ma, Ex ia [ia] IIC/IIB/IIA T4 Ga
Ambient temperature:
– -40 … +70 °C for Group I and IIC/IIB/IIA T4
– -40 … +55 °C for Group I and IIC/IIB/IIA T6
Stainless steel IECEx cable glands M20 x 1,5 with blind plugs are included in delivery.
Before commissioning, the user must ensure that suitable plugs or cable glands are fit-
ted which fulfill the relevant explosion safety regulations for the installation.
Safety-relevant data for intrinsically safe circuits is provided in the IECEx Certificate of
conformity.
It is not permitted to connect FLOWSIC60 with other non-intrinsically safe devices or
components. The connection of FLOWSIC60 to associated devices and components
with certified intrinsically safe connections must be proven to conform with intrinsic
safety according to IEC 60079-14 and be documented.
Ensure that the cover on the power supply connection is properly sealed. In intrinsically
safe installations, the terminal box can be opened and cables connected and discon-
nected while the system is live. In this case it is also allowed to connect or disconnect
cables from each other when attention is paid to the safe separation of the circuits.
The SPU may only be connected to SICK intrinsically safe sensors. Connection to com-
ponents not part of the SICK measuring system, especially those by other manufactur-
ers is not permitted. The connections of the sensors are constructed in a way to ensure
that the individual circuits are safely isolated from other circuits (both intrinsically safe
and non-intrinsically safe). When interrupting the transducer circuit while energized, the
safe isolation to other circuits (both intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe) must be
ensured so that the intrinsic safety is not compromised. For this reason, if necessary,
the cables should be removed one by one from the electronics first, and then from the
sensors. Alternatively, the cables can be secured against accidental removal/move-
ment so that contact with the unprotected, open connection is prevented. A short circuit
with earth does not compromise the intrinsic safety.
The SPU housing must not be insulated.
Figure 20 on page 39 gives an overview of the FLOWSIC60 components and their type
of Ex safety. Applicable requirements are:
– IEC 60079-0
– IEC 60079-11
– IEC 60079-26
Approval of the ultrasonic sensors in zone 0 is only valid for operation under
atmospheric conditions.
WARNING:
Always observe the temperature specifications for use in hazardous areas
according to the relevant Ex-safety.
