5. ADJUSTMENTS
No adjustment must be carried out with the
engine running.
5.1 Chains adjustment
a) Check the tension of the gearing chains ( Fig. 42 ).
If, during the reversal of the augers rotation there are
knocking sounds, this means that the gearing chains are
not at the right tension and have become loose.
In this situation, proceed as follows:
1) Take off the general switch;
2) adjust the left chain (2):
a) unscrew the nuts (5) of the reduction gears
support;
b) Unscrew the nuts (3) from the gearbox support
plate;
c) Set the chain operating on the nuts (4) up to
achieve a moving range of 10 mm (5 mm up, 5
mm down);
d) Screw all the nuts (3) (plate of gear support);
3) Set the chain (1) operating on the nut (5) up to
achieve a moving range of 10 mm (5 mm up, 5 mm
down).
The hydraulic parts of the machine (valves,
distributors etc.) have been pre-set by the
manufacturer and so there are no ordinary
adjustments to carry out. A lead seal ensures
that said valves are not tampered with.
b) Adjustment of the unloading belt chain tension ( Fig.
43 ).
Moving the screws (1) of the bearing supports (2) carries
out this adjustment (2).
5.2 Timing of augers
Timing of the worm screws must be carried out whenever
an ordinary or extraordinary maintenance job has changed
their original position, e.g. in case of replacement of the
gear wheels, the pinion, bearings, the chain or a worm
screw.
In as this operation appreciably influences the cutting
speed and relative adsorption of power, it is important to
perform it correctly.
In order to time the augers it is necessary to know that
they have a helical structure, which differs, in zones A
and B (see Fig. 44).
