3.4. ProfiSafe applications
At ProfiSafe the transmission medium is called
“Black
Channel
“, i.e. it is not part of the safety function. Because the
WP-3000 acts like a cable, it does not affect the safety
function.
The safety functions will be executed by the Siemens F CPU
and the according ProfiSafe modules (e.g. Siemens ET200
IM 153 with input modules).

Check unconditionally if the signal delay of the
transmission path or a possible interrupt of the
transmission path (actuation of the SIL monitor) affect
any safety criteria.
Practical experience has indicated that the SIL monitor
time should be increased to a min. of 500ms to 800ms.
The SIL monitor time has to be set within the CPU. If the
safety function recognizes an interrupted connection path or
subscriber within this time, it switches into safe operation
mode.
