Scope
This manual contains the information necessary to install, configure, operate and maintain the
SAFRAN DATA SYSTEMS PC-based Command Ranging & Telemetry Unit (CORTEX CRT Quantum).
The Cortex CRT Quantum is the latest version of the Cortex CRT and can be supplied in different versions:
Cortex CRT-Quantum, integrated in a 4U chassis with integrated simplified I/O panel
Cortex CRT-Quantum, integrated in a 2U chassis with integrated simplified I/O panel
Cortex CRT-Quantum, integrated in a 4U chassis with 3U full I/O panel
Cortex CRT-Quantum, integrated in a 2U chassis with 3U full I/O panel
All these versions can be provided with an embedded frequency converter (EFC), providing direct interface in L
and S bands.
The Cortex CRT eXplorer is a dedicated platform for Deep-Space missions. It is always integrated in a 4U
chassis with 3U full I/O panel. Embedded frequency converter is not suitable in that case; one will prefer Safran
Data Systems external frequency converters.
The document is divided into four main sections:
Section 1
is a general overview, including basic features and performances, and a comparison chart
between the Cortex CRT XL, CRT XL2 and CRT XL Quantum
Section 2
is a description of the hardware and I/O connections,
Section 3
is a functional presentation of the equipment,
Section 4
describes the operating procedures,
Section 5
describes the hardware and software maintenance procedures.
Project-specific information and additional data on the CORTEX CRT Quantum hardware and interface are
attached in annex:
Annex 1
is a detailed description of the CORTEX CRT Quantum Ethernet interface with remote TCP-IP
Clients.
Annexes 2
and 3
give the layout of the Digitial I/O board and the Main Signal Processing board.
Annex 4
is a description of the PC compatible workstation.
Annex 5
gives the hardware and software configuration of the CORTEX CRT Quantum at delivery and
describes the project-specific features, if any.
