Using the poker
To allow the SURPRISE to be opened easily and safely, we developed
the ‘cold hand’, a specialised poker for handling the glass. At the front it
has a thin plate that can be squeezed between the glass panes and
then used to push them. When not in use, it can be attached to the
main body with the magnets. It is made of stainless steel and is
weatherproof.
Increased heat
The ‘cold hand’ is made of stainless steel and does not conduct
heat well. Nevertheless, care must be taken to ensure that it is
placed on the outer edge wherever possible, where the metal is
coldest. This position is also illustrated in the assembly manual.
Holding the poker
Hold the tool only by the handle. The magnets can get extremely
hot and also transfer this heat to the thin plate on the front.
The illustration on the left gives an idea of how heat is approx.
distributed on the poker. Blue represents cold and red stands for
hot.
The blue to green area can be handled well under normal fire
conditions. Be careful, however: this area can also become warm if
the fire is excessive.
