The programming menu disappears when you disconnect the BID chip; the screen then
reverts to the normal display.
7.2
PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
The method for programming the BID chip parameters is identical to the method for set-
ting the parameters, as described in Section 6.2. The parameter to be changed is
selected using the ‘SELECT’ button; the flashing cursor indicates the variable value. The
value can then be increased using the ‘INC’ button, and decreased with the ‘DEC’ but-
ton. The procedure is described below, using battery type selection as an example.
The first step is to select the BID chip program-
ming menu using the ‘SELECT’ button. At this
point you can select one of the available battery
types using the ‘INC’ button to scroll forward and
the ‘DEC’ button to scroll back. This menu is not
arranged in an endless loop; at either end-point
you have to press the opposite direction button
(‘INC’ or ‘DEC’ button) again to continue.
Use the ‘SELECT’ button to navigate to the next parameter, and use the same procedu-
re to enter the appropriate settings. The remaining programming steps can now be car-
ried out using the same method. Please take care to observe the information supplied by
the battery manufacturer when programming the BID chip parameters. Once you have
programmed all the settings, select ‘EXIT’ to leave the menu, and the parameter settings
are stored.
7.3
READING OUT THE DATA ON A BID CHIP
Connecting a BID chip to the charger changes the endless menu loop: it now includes
additional menu points which contain the battery data. Calling up this data gives you an
overview of the state of the battery. The following section shows that part of the menu
structure in which the data is read out; in the endless loop this area is located between
the input voltage display and the battery type select point. Press the ‘SELECT’ button to
move to the next display.
