Positioning the Flask
1. With the vacuum valve on the machine
closed, turn on the vacuum pump.
Turn on the vacuum pump.
2. Move the cam lever all the way to the left to
release the flask chamber lifting cam on the
left side of the machine.
Move the cam lever to the left.
3. Using the flask chamber handle on the
upper right-hand side of the chamber,
swing the flask chamber out.
Swing the flask chamber out.
4. Check that the flange gasket is the right size
for the flask you will use.
5. Using flask tongs, take the flask from your
burnout oven and place it in the chamber.
Important! Timing is essential; the flask
should be put into the machine just as the
metal melts. When the metal is about 28°C
(50°F) below the melting point, you have
about 20 seconds before the metal is com-
pletely melted. This should be just enough
time to retrieve and insert the flask.
Using flask tongs, insert the flask.
6. Move the vacuum valve lever to the open
position (parallel to the pipe). The vacuum
gauge should indicate that a vacuum is
being pulled on the flask.
Open the vacuum valve.
If you’re not getting a vacuum on the flask,
try rotating the flask with tongs to improve
the seal.
