Assembly and adjustment
Before using the wheelchair, check that the
n
components of the wheelchair, such as the sides
with armrests and the legrests, are properly fitted
and that the seat and backrest, for example, are
securely fastened.
Make sure that the push handles, the armrests,
n
the side cushions, the lower leg length and the
headrest, if present, are set to the right height.
The legrests must be at least 5 cm off the floor.
Check the dimensions and set the seat depth and
n
width to the optimum position using the backrest
frame and the armrests respectively, if necessary.
Sitting in the wheelchair
Make sure that the user’s fingers do not become
n
trapped between the frame and the wheels or
between the spokes on the wheels. The user or
accompanying person should therefore be vigilant
in the following situations:
If the wheelchair is tilted too far backwards.
n
If the user is sitting lopsidedly in the wheelchair
n
If the user’s arms are hanging down limply over the
n
armrest.
In any combination of the above situations.
n
Use of the wheelchair
(see also page 24, 25 and 26 for more information)
n
N.B.:
When using the chair on a slope, the centre
of gravity will change and the wheelchair can tip
over backwards more easily.
When propelling the chair manually, be careful of
n
your hands if there is not much space to the left
and right of the chair.
Accompanying persons must never leave the
n
wheelchair on a slope without engaging the
brake.
