This manual describes the installation and operation of the Reading Stove Company CS-45
coal heater. This heater is exempt from U. S. Environmental Protection Agency's particulate emissions standards and
complies with Federal Regulation 40 CER60.
This heater is only for burning coal. Use of any other solid fuel except for coal ignition purposes is a violation of
federal law.
Tamper Warning. Modification of this heater from its original design and structure may be a violation of federal law
and will void the warranty.
Fuel Selection.
This heater is designed to burn anthracite grade pea-size or nut-size coal. Coal that is less than ½”
diameter will fall through the grate openings.
Note; Pea-size passes over
½”
and through ¾”; nut-size passes
over ¾” and through 1 3/8”.

Fuel Selection
The CS-45 Cut-Away System:
Hopper.
The CS-45 utilizes a hopper; the hopper holds a reserve supply of coal approximately equal to the quantity of coal that is
burning on the grate within the coal basket.
The hopper also functions as an internal heat exchanger as it farces the hot exhaust gases forward and then around the sides
before they can exit the flue.
Do not attempt to burn this heater with the coal hopper removed or open.
