E.3 Ash Removal from the Stove.
[See
Figure 22.1]
Caution
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU ONLY USE THE ASH-TIDY
WHEN THE FIRE HAS BEEN REDUCED TO EMBERS AND
BEFORE ADDITIONAL COAL IS ADDED.
THIS WILL
MININMIZE THE EFFECT OF THE AIR ENTERING THE ASH
CLEANOUT DOOR AND ENSURE THAT THE STOVE WILL NOT
FLARE UP OR OVERHEAT.
NEVER LEAVE THE STOVE
UNATTENDED WITH ANY OF THE DOORS OPEN.
E.3.a Close the primary air (push towards the rear to the stove).
E.3.b Using the stove tool or large blade screwdriver, rotate the latch located over the cleanout door counter-clockwise
½ rotation
E.3.c Using a pair of gloves pushes the ash lip downward.
E.3.d The mechanics of the ash-tidy are detailed in the illustration above.
E.3.e Before leaving the stove....
E:3:f.1 Close and secure the ash cleanout door
E:3.f.2 Reset the primary air.
E.3.f CAREFULLY carry the ash-tidy out of the house, Remember, it contains hot ashes and most likely
some red-hot coals,
Remember to store the ash-tidy away from combustibles.
F. Grates
This stove is designed to be operated ONLY with the grate system, including firebricks and hopper in place. The
grate is air-cooled by the primary combustion air. Failure to remove the ashes before they accumulate to the depth
that they are near or touching the bottom of the grate may cause the grate to overheat.
The firebrick walls of the coal basket are designed to hold the burning embers away from the outer walls of the
stove. Operating the stove with the firebricks removed may overheat parts of the stove and may subsequently result
in unsafe temperatures to surrounding combustibles. Reading Stove Company replacement parts are available either
through your stove dealer or directly from Reading Stove Company.
