2. Plug the adapter into a standard
AC outlet. The TAD positions the
tape for operation, which takes up
to 1 minute.
Note: If there is no backup outgo-
ing announcement on the mes-
sage tape, the TAD beeps. If there
is a backup outgoing announce-
ment on the message tape, the
TAD automatically restores the
announcement from the tape into
memory. See “Recording an Out-
going Announcement” on Page

CHARGING THE
BATTERY
You must charge the battery in the
handset for at least 24 hours before
you connect the phone to the phone
line and use the phone for the first
time.
You can recharge the battery at any
time, but be sure to recharge it when
the CHARGE indicator on the handset
flashes.
To charge or recharge the battery,
place the handset on the cradle. The
CHARGE indicator lights.
Notes:
• When you place the handset on
the cradle, the system’s security
access-protection code automati-
cally activates. This prevents
other cordless phones from using
your telephone line.
• If the CHARGE indicator does not
stay lit when you place the hand-
set on the cradle, be sure the AC
adapter is properly connected.
Also, check the charging contacts
on the handset and base. If the
contacts are dirty or tarnished,
clean them with a pencil eraser.
• A full charge lasts about 24 hours
if you leave the handset off the
base and do not make any calls.
Be sure to return the handset to
the base when you see the
CHARGE indicator blinking.
