INSTALLATION
CHOOSING A LOCATION
You can use your telephone as a desk
phone, mount it on a standard wall plate,
or mount it directly on the wall. Select a
location that is near a modular tele-
phone jack and an AC outlet.
Caution: The supplied RadioShack
adapter was designed specifically for
your ET-294. Use only the supplied
adapter.
To take full advantage of many of the
ET-294’s features (like conference call-
ing) you must have two telephone lines
with separate phone numbers. If you
have only one phone line, you can order
a second line from your local phone
company.
You can use a two-line jack (RJ14C or
RJ14W for a wall plate) that contains
both lines, or you can use a separate
single-line jack (RJ11C) for each line. If
you use two single-line jacks, you must
connect the lines with an optional two-
line coupler (such as Cat. No. 279-401).
Coupler
Notes:
• The line that connects the phone
jack to the telephone company wir-
ing must be twisted-pair cable. Oth-
erwise, you might experience
interference (crosstalk) between the
two phone lines.
• Your telephone connects directly to
a modular telephone line jack. If
your telephone wiring does not have
a modular jack, you can update the
wiring yourself using jacks and
adapters available at your local
RadioShack store, or have the tele-
phone company update the wiring
for you.
• The USOC number of the single-line
jack to be installed is RJ11C (or
RJ11W for a wall plate jack). The
USOC number for a two-line jack is
RJ14C (or RJ14W for a wall plate).
SETTING THE L1 L1/L2
SWITCH
The
L1
L1/L2
switch on your ET-294
comes preset to
L1/L2
for a 2-line con-
nection. If you plan to connect only one
line to the ET-294, set the switch
to
L1
.
If you plan to connect two lines to the
ET-294, be sure the switch is set to
L1/
L2
.
