5.2.7 Create Hot Spare
The Create Hot Spare option gives you the ability to define a global hot spare.
When you choose the
Create Hot Spare
option in the Raid Set Function, all
unused (non Raid Set member) disk drives in the subsystem appear. Select the
target disk drive by clicking on the appropriate check box. Tick on the
Confirm The
Operation
and click on the
Submit
button to create hot spare drive(s).
Hot Spare Type
Description
Global Hot Spare
The Hot Spare disk is a hot spare on all
enclosures connected in daisy chain. It can
replace any failed disk in any enclosure.
Dedicated to RaidSet
The Hot Spare disk is a hot spare dedicated
only to the RaidSet where it is assigned. It
can replace any failed disk in the RaidSet
where it is assigned.
Dedicated to Enclosure
The Hot Spare disk is a hot spare dedicated
only to the enclosure where it is located. It
can replace any failed disk on the enclosure
where it is located.
NOTE: When the Raid Set status is in
Degraded state, this option will not work.
NOTE: The capacity of the hot spare disk(s) must be equal to or
greater than the smallest hard disk size in the subsystem so that
it/they can replace any failed disk drive.
NOTE: The Hot Spare Type can also be viewed by clicking on Raid
Set Hierarchy in the Information menu.
