Muscle contractions are triggered by electrodes positioned on
the body. The successive contracting and relaxing of the mu-
scles strengthens them and at the same time helps integrate the
muscles more quickly into general movement patterns, promo-
ting and stimulating both muscle activity and arterial circulation.
The
Promed EMT-4
is ideally suited to preventing and delaying di-
suse atrophy in injured parts of the body, e.g. when a part of the
body is immobilized for a long period of time due to a plaster cast,
splint or extension bandage.
A further area of application for the
Promed EMT-4
is the treatment
of various mobility disorders, for example involving the hip, ankle
and elbow joints. The stimulator can be used on the corresponding
parts of the body to improve coordination in the case of mobility dis-
orders. This acts on both the
nerve
and
muscle tissue
. By loosening
the muscles, pain can be relieved or even eliminated.
The stimulati-
on frequencies are lower than with the TENS method.
During the entire cycle time, the muscles being treated can be
• tensed
• relaxed
• moved
• kneaded
• massaged
thereby achieving a clear reduction in local pain.
Both the TENS and EMS methods can activate the muscles and
thus have a muscle-building effect.
