c.
Setting the free play:
i.
With the 1/16” Allen key, turn one of the set screws until the free play at the top of the brake lever
stroke is in the range of about 1/8 inch. Press the lever several times to make sure this is consistent.
ii. Then tighten the second set screw so that the free play is slightly less, in the range of 1/16 to 1/8 inch.
This dual adjustment is necessary to keep the brake lever parallel to the top of the manual brake
release housing.
d. Testing for operation:
i. Apply a 100 pound down load on the ascender.
ii. Press the brake release lever to full stroke and make sure the PQ 500 will descend.
iii. Apply the full working load on the PQ 500 and make sure that the brake does not slip.
e. NOTE: IT IS BETTER TO ERROR ON THE SIDE OF HAVING THE BRAKE LEVER WITH TOO MUCH FREE
PLAY THAN NONE.
f.
ALWAYS CHECK THE PQ 500 FOR PROPER BRAKE FUNCTION PRIOR TO CLIMBING.
