1 - Functional Description
The SprintScan 35LE (Figure 1-1) is a high-speed, high-resolution slide scanner that
converts pictures on slide into binary code for further processing by a host computer.

The image is first converted into analog signals which vary in magnitude according to
shading in the original document. In the second phase, the analog signals are digitized.
The resulting binary codes stored in a video buffer and transmitted via the SCSI bus to the
host. Individual functional blocks are described in the following sections.
Photoelectric Converter
The photoelectric converter (Figure 1-2) consists of a light source, lens, and linear-array
CCD with associated driving circuitry.
