Checking Carriage Stepper Motor Malfunction

Position Sensor Error

Note: The position photo sensor mounted on the main board marked S2, is used to

establish the carriage home position at power-up, and before and after
scanning.

Proper positioning ensures that scanning will not begin before the scanning
window is within view of the CCD.

1. Determine whether the position sensor is functioning properly by blocking the photo

sensor scan with an opaque object.

2. Turn power off and then move the chassis away from carriage home position.

3. Turn power on.

Note: If the carriage is still moving upward, a malfunction occurred.
