High-definition broadcasts are digital and can be easily
compressed, thereby creating multiple programs from a
single broadcast. As shown in the example above, a high-
definition broadcast can be televised as one program
(channel 36.01) or it can be split into three different pro-
grams (channel 35 -> channels 35.10, 35.40 and 35.80).

Digital Television
Digital Television (DTV) is an exciting new digital broadcast
standard that will provide vastly improved picture and sound
quality compared to current NTSC (National Television
Standards Committee) analog technology. The DTV stan-
dard allows broadcasters the choice of transmitting single
program High Definition Television (HDTV) or multiple
Standard Definition Television (SDTV) programs.

single channel at 1 million pixels per 1/60th of a second.
SDTV: 480P or 480I signals can be transmitted over many
channels simultaneously. 480P at half a million pixels per 1/
60th of a second. 480I at a quarter of a million pixels per 1/
60th of a second.
NTSC: Present-day analog format in North America.

Interlaced Scanning: Picture constructed from interlacing two pairs of
fields, each containing half the scan lines, as in today’s analog TVs.

Progressive Scanning: Picture constructed from single frames containing
all the scan lines, progressing from top to bottom, as in today’s PC
monitors.

Universal remote control with light function
The remote control allows you to easily operate the Digital Tuner as well as your
television, VCR and cable box. It also comes with a function to light up the main
buttons for use in a darkly-lit room.

Dolby Digital (AC-3)* and two digital audio output terminals
By connecting the Digital Tuner to an amplifier with Dolby Digital, you can enjoy
Dolby Digital (5.1 channel) audio from your digital television.

Timer and VCR output terminal (for NTSC format VCR)
By connecting the Digital Tuner to your VCR, you can set up to one program in the timer.

Info Banner Plus
Digital television program information sent to the
Digital Tuner can be displayed like a banner. Whenever
using this function you can check and jump to another
channel.
