Appendices
Appendix A: Troubleshooting
If you are having problems using the AutoSort Connect, look up the problem in the following table,
and then follow the instructions to resolve the problem. If you have a problem that is not listed
here, try to determine what might be causing the problem. If you cannot resolve the problem, call
your dealer or Phason Technical Support (see the last page of the manual.)
Problem/message Possible cause Resolution
The display does not light up There is no power.

Make sure there is power to the unit. See Install the
AutoSort Connect on page 5.
The ribbon cable is not
connected.

Make sure the ribbon cable is connected. See Install the
AutoSort Connect on page 5.
The display shows a positive
or negative weight when there
is nothing on the scale.

If the value is a small amount (less than five
pounds/kilograms, press
0 to adjust it.

If the value is a large amount, recalibrate the scale. See
Appendix B: Calibrating the scale head on page 27.


The displayed weight
fluctuates greatly (for
example, -100 pounds, then
500 pounds) when there is
nothing on the scale. The load cell is not
properly connected to the
scale head.

Measure the voltage from the + excitation to the –
excitation terminals. The voltage should be about 5 VDC.
See Connect the load cell on page 16.


The display does not register
a weight when there is weight
on the scale. The load cell is not
properly connected to the
scale head.

Measure the voltage from the + excitation to the –

Animals sort straight correctly
but left and right are
backward. The hose connections are
incorrect.

Correct the hose connections. See Connect equipment to
the solenoid on page 10.
Animals are being sorted in
the wrong direction. The sort settings are
incorrect.

Make sure the sort settings are correct for the size of
animals. For more information, go to
Settings on the
AutoSort.
The hose connections do
not match the power off
configuration.

Make sure the power off settings match the hose
connections. See
Connect equipment to the solenoid on
page 10 and go to Configuration > Power off on the
AutoSort.
The right and left exit gates
bang into each other. The hose connections do
not match the power off
configuration.

Make sure the power off settings match the hose
connections. See

page 10 and Configuration > Power off on the AutoSort.
