Causes and solutions
• You haven’t inserted a disc. Correctly insert a disc that this unit can play.
• The disc is upside down. If it is a single-sided disc, insert it so the label is facing up.
• The disc isn’t on the tray correctly. See the instructions in playing discs for the correct way to
set discs.
• The unit cannot record on the disc you inserted. The unit cannot record onto finalized DVD-R,
DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, CDs or Video CDs. Insert a DVD-RAM or un-finalized DVD-R.
• You inserted an unformatted DVD-RAM. Format the disc with this unit.
• You inserted an incompatible disc.
• The write protect tab on the cartridge is set to “PROTECT”.
Use a ballpoint pen or similar to release the write protection.
• The program is write-protected. Release the protection with the search program.
• The disc is write-protected. Release the protection with the disc protection sub menu of DISC
INFORMATION.
• The program was copy-protected.
• The disc is full.
• Recording was not completed for some other reason.
• The input signal is copy-protected.
• You cannot play the disc because there is no video recorded on it.
• The disc is scratched. Use another disc.
• The disc is dirty. Clean the disc as described in these operating instructions.
• You inserted an incompatible disc.
• TV system of the program or the input signal was different from the setting in SETUP.
• No space left on the disc. Create space by erasing any unwanted programs. Use a new disc.
• This unit can play DVD-R recorded and finalized with this unit. Do not play DVD Video.
• Press the [ENTER] button. Recovery starts. When the display panel clears, turn off the unit
and then turn it on. You cannot operate the unit during recovery.
• Check the discs for dirt or scratches.
• You can operate the unit using [OPEN/CLOSE
] only.
• Press [OPEN/CLOSE
] to open the tray and eject a disc, the unit becomes off.
• To continue play or recording, turn off the unit, turn it on and then insert another disc.
• To enable playback of your DVD-R on compatible equipment, it is necessary to finalize it.
• Release the protection on the DVD-RAM.
• Because the character set of the disc is different from the set designated for each region, the
operation cannot be allowed.
• There is no compatible folder in this unit.
• The operation is prohibited by the disc or unit.
