OPERATION SEQUENCE
Below is a description of the sequence of operations carried out by the "Orlatrice 99" Hemming Machine 99:
It is essential that the operator reads this description carefully, understanding each point, as the
trouble-shooting guide is based on full knowledge of this sequence.
The first thing that needs checking is the air pressure in the machine circuit, which must be fixed at 5.0 ATU
(70 PSI).
Adjust the pressure using the pressure reduction unit under the delivery belt; the pressure is indicated on the
pressure gauge.
Turn the two-position “SMALL/NORMAL” selector switch to select which photocell at the end of the conveyor
belt you want to use to delivery the material.
Select NORMAL for sewing and delivery of pockets measuring more than 13 cm.
Select SMALL for sewing and delivery of pockets measuring less than 13 cm.
Check that the thread-breakage sensors are only switched on where the thread is actually in use.
Press the black button on the machine stand to start the unit moving.
The motor rotation symbol on the control panel starts to turn to show that the unit is ready.
Place a pocket to be hemmed on against the stop square near the control panel and gently nudge it under
the conveyor belt. Keep the pocket against the check plate while the fabric is moving under the conveyor belt.
The LOADING photocell at the start of the infeed system (photocell 1 input IB) reads the presence of the
pocket and gives the command for the immediate start of the loading cycle.
The pocket moves and when the photocell (photocell 1 input IA) reads the end of the pocket, it gives the
command for the immediate stop of the sewing cycle after the number of stitches set in parameter PSU in
P mode.
While the unit completes the sewing cycle, place a new pocket to be hemmed against the stop square, wait
for the unit to stop automatically and then insert the pocket under the conveyor belt.
Keep the pocket against the check plate while the fabric is moving under the conveyor belt.
WARNING: if you introduce the pocket before the unit has stopped completely, it may affect the correct
cutting of the chain of empty stitches as there is not enough room for the double cut.
Moreover, the sewing cycle could stop if the operator causes a false start with the fabric, due to the photocell
reading the start of the pocket twice in succession.
If the cycle stops, press button P on the control panel: the loading cycle starts up again automatically.
If the unit stops and the motor rotation symbol is at a standstill, it means that one of the thread-
breakage sensors has tripped.
Switch the unit off and then back on again using the emergency button.
Check which of the threads in the sewing head (upper or lower) is responsible for the alarm.
Rethread the unit and press the black button on the machine stand to start the unit up.
When the pocket reaches the sewing head, the sewing cycle starts to fix the bottom hem, which a special
Folding device has folded over twice. The hemming sequence is thus completed.
As the operator loads the pockets under the conveyor belt, they are sewn and then are read by the CUTTER
photocell at the entry to the chain of empty stitch cutter unit (photocell 2 input I1).
On detecting the START of the pocket, the photocell gives the command for the immediate start of the COB
counter cycle. Once the set value has been reached, the knife is activated and the suction system stops.
On detecting the END of the pocket, the photocell gives the command for the immediate start of the suction
system and the COA counter cycle. Once the set value has been reached, the knife is activated.
As the operator loads the pockets under the conveyor belt, they are sewn, the chains of empty stitches
at their ends are cut and the pockets are read by the DELIVERY photocell at the entry to the delivery unit
(photocell 3 input I2).
To stop the machine:
ALWAYS press the “Emergency” button to stop the Hemming Machine 99.
Close the air inlet valve by turning this to “OFF” (central position).
