Machine Familiarization
NOTE:
Responsibilities for familiarization may vary by region.
Only properly trained personnel who have received unit-spe
-
cific familiarization shall operate a MEWP. The user shall deter
-
mine if personnel are qualified to operate the MEWP prior to
operation. The user shall ensure that after familiarization, the
operator operates the MEWP for a sufficient period of time to
achieve proficiency. When authorized by the user, self-familiari
-
zation can be achieved, if authorized, by a properly trained
operator reading, understanding and following the manufac
-
turer’s operator’s manual.
Prior to users authorization of an operator to use a specific
model of MEWP, the user shall ensure the operator is familiar
-
ized on the following:
1.
Location of the manual storage compartment and the
requirement to ensure the required manual(s) are
present on the MEWP;
2.
Purpose and function of the machine controls and
indicators at the platform and ground control stations;
3.
Purpose, location, and function of the emergency con
-
trols;
4.
Operating characteristics and limitations;
5.
Features and devices;
6.
Accessories and optional equipment.
2.2 PREPARATION, INSPECTION, AND MAINTENANCE
The following table covers the machine inspections and mainte
-
nance recommended by JLG Industries, Inc. Consult local regu
-
lations for further requirements for aerial work platforms. The
frequency of inspections and maintenance must be increased
as necessary when the machine is used in a harsh or hostile
environment, if the machine is used with increased frequency,
or if the machine is used in a severe manner.
