Troubleshooting
This chapter provides instructions for general troubleshooting tasks.
Basic Troubleshooting
The following table contains descriptions and solutions for common problems
encountered when installing or operating the Workstation 6.

Possible Causes
Solution
The Workstation 6 does not
start and does not show the
splash screen.
No power to the
Workstation 6.
Make sure you connected
the AC power cable to the
workstation and to a surge-
protected outlet, UPS,
power conditioner, or wall
outlet.
If you placed the
Workstation 6 on the stand,
make sure you connected
the power cable to the
stand.
The Workstation 6 does not
start and the screen remains
blank after 30 seconds.
Missing or defective SO-
DIMM.
Re-seat SO-DIMM 0.
Do not use 2GB SO-DIMMs.
The Workstation 6 does not
start.
The operator LED stays off
or stays on.
The operator LCD remains
blank after 30 seconds.
Missing or defective BIOS
Chip U2
Defective system board.
Make sure you installed
BIOS Chip U2.
The Workstation 6 does not
connect to the Local Area
Network.
The Network Patch cable is
not connected.
Install the appropriate patch
cable between the
workstation and the wall
jack.
The Workstation 6 does not
read mag cards.
The mag card reader head is
dirty or contaminated.
Use the mag card cleaning
kit on the reader.
The mag card reader is
defective.
Replace the magnetic stripe
reader.
