3.2. Module Descriptions
Figure 3-2: Eagle modules
The Eagle is split into several modules (Figure 3-2), described below. Note that
the paper path goes back and forth between modules. To see it in detail, refer
“3.5. The Paper Path” on page 31
.
Module 1
This is usually called the Outsort Module, or occasionally the
Qualifier or Envelope Validation. Mail enters here from the conveyor, and any
envelopes that are too thick or that contain metal are outsorted.
Module 2
Many functions happen in Module 2. The conveyor’s feeder is
attached to this module, and it also houses part of the cutter path, the content
imagers, MICR reader, and the orientation & sequencing areas. This module is
sometimes called the Image Export Module (IEM).
Module 3
The most prominent features on Module 3 are the refeeders, but it
also contains the remaining cutters and the singulator.
Module 4
This module is often called the Extractor or Extract Module. This
module also holds the outsort bins, as well as the optional audit trail printers.
Stacker Modules
Processed pieces are sorted into the stacker modules
according to the job parameters. The Eagle can have 2 to 4 stacker modules.
