Lithium Ion batteries have no requirement for conditioning, even after partial
discharges. The current battery pack utilizes a Renata ICP883448A-SC cell, with a
nominal capacity of 1150mAh. For a completely discharged battery, the charge time
is approximately 5 hours. Under lab conditions, current draw was measured for
different configurations of memory. The table below shows the results of those
tests, and the expected backup time is indicated for the specified memory
configuration. The table shows the absolute maximum backup time calculated from
the current draw measurements. The “Expected Safe Backup Time” is the absolute
maximum de-rated by 50% to account for different operating temperatures and
capacity reduction due to battery charge/discharge cycles. This is the time that
should be used when developing a system level power backup plan.
Embedded SES Support
The FC-SATA RAID Controller implements the SES Interface protocol for
monitoring enclosure environmental conditions. This is accomplished through
the controller firmware and is known as “SES processes.”
SES protocol provides the interface specification for monitoring enclosure
component status and reporting environmental condition data on the enclosure’s
temperature, fan status, power supply status, and bus status.
When an error or condition occurs, the status changes and the condition is
reported as an event to the event logs. It is communicated to the user via the
enclosures LEDs and audible alarm, as well as external monitoring software. You
may access and monitor the health status through the VT-100 interface or through
StorView Storage Management software. Refer to the appropriate software guide
for more details.
The controller firmware can be updated through the RS-232 Service port. Refer to
“Updating Controller Firmware” on page 51.
