11.1 General
The equipment must be shipped, stored and installed with the greatest care.
Choose the place of installation such that the communication interface and the controls on the
front of the device are easily accessible.
Air must circulate freely around the equipment. Observe all the requirements regarding place of
installation and ambient conditions given in this instruction manual.
Take care that the external wiring is properly brought into the equipment and terminated correctly
and pay special attention to grounding. Strictly observe the corresponding guidelines contained in
this section.
11.2 Safety Instructions
Modules and units may only be replaced by correspondingly trained personnel. Always observe
the basic precautions to avoid damage due to electrostatic discharge when ha ndling the
equipment.
In certain cases, the settings have to be configured according to the demands of the engineering
configuration after replacement. It is therefore assumed that the personnel who replace modules
and units are familiar with the use of the operator program on the service PC.
DANGER!
Only insert or withdraw the power supply module while the power supply is
switched off. To this end, disconnect the power supply cable that connects with th e power
supply module.
WARNING!
Only insert or withdraw other modules while the power supply is switched off.
WARNING!
The modules may only be inserted in the slots designated in
Section 6.2
.
Components can be damaged or destroyed by inserting boards in the wrong slots.
DANGER!
Improper handling of the equipment can cause damage or an incorrect
response of the equipment itself or the primary plant.
WARNING!
Industry packs and ribbon cables may only be replaced or the positions of
jumpers be changed on a workbench appropriately designed for working on electronic
equipment. The modules, bus backplanes are sensitive to electrostatic discharge when
not in the unit's housing.
The basic precautions to guard against electrostatic discharge are as follows:
