EDGE PREP MODULE (OPTIONAL)
The edge prep module allows the machine to do the lock bore, the latch bore, and
the face plate mortise.
The module has a template that guides the lite cutter to cut the lock bore. There is
also a latch drill assembly to drill the latch bore and a router motor that will cut the
face plate mortise.
LOCK BORE TEMPLATE
The template holder is mounted to the latch drill assembly. There is a template in the
end of the holder. This template determines the size of the lock bore. The standard
template is for a 2 1/8” bore. Other template sizes are available upon request.
• To remove the template from the holder, loosen the set screws on either side of
the template.
• When the template holder extends it goes between two support blocks. There is
very little clearance so the holder must line up accurately. When the latch drill
assembly moves back to its home position it contacts a stop bolt. Adjust this
bolt to position the template holder so it lines up with the support blocks.
• There are two air cylinders that push the template holder out and pull it back.
One of the cylinders has a sensor on it that is activated when the template hold
-
er is retracted. If this sensor is not activated the latch drill assembly will not
shift over to do the face plate route.
• When the template holder is extended it stops against two bolts. These bolts
are used to adjust how far out the template goes. This controls how far the lock
bore is from the edge of the door.
• When the machine is set for 2 3/8” backset the two stop bolts land on metal
tabs. If you pivot these tabs out of the way it will change the backset to 2 ¾”.
LATCH DRILL ASSEMBLY
The latch drill is pushed out to drill the latch hole. The standard drill bit sent with
the 4800 is 1”. Other drill bit sizes are available upon request.
• To remove the drill bit from the holder hold the drill chuck and rotate the bit. It
will unscrew from the chuck.
• The latch drill is pushed out and pulled back by an air cylinder. The air cylinder
has two sensors. There is a home sensor that is activated when the drill is retract
-
ed and a return sensor that is activated when the drill is fully extended. If the
home sensor is not activated the latch drill assembly will not shift over to do the
face plate route.
• To adjust the latch bore to be on center with the lock bore loosen the four bolts
that hold the motor to the plate and move the motor left or right as necessary.
• To adjust the latch bore to be in the center of the door. Loosen the four mounting
bolts, two at each end and, using the two jacking bolts, move the edge prep mod
-
ule up or down as necessary. See Photo A.
