Air Cooler Housing
The air cooler housing is located on top of the generator and supports the water cooler
and directs the air fl ow. Lifting eyes to remove the cooler are located on each corner.
Water Boxes
Water boxes are located on each end of the cooler and direct water between the tubes
and the fl anges.
Core Tubes
The construction of the core tubes are either double tubes or single tubes, depending
on the application. Double tubes consist of fl uted tubes housed inside of an outer tube
with the inner and outer tubes connected at each end to inner and outer tube sheets. The
space between the inner and outer tube sheets serves as a leak off compartment. The
outer tube provides a passage for water leakage of the inner tube to the leakage cham-
bers, which are located behind the water boxes.
Leakage Chambers
The two leakage chambers are connected by a tube. The leakage chamber on the fl ange
side has a "tell-tale" connector that can be hooked up to a leakage detector. Water in
the drain indicates a leak in the inner tubes or a bad connection between inner and
outer tube sheets.
Drip Tray Assembly
The drip tray assembly is located directly beneath the core assembly. The drip tray as-
sembly prevents water condensate forming on the heat exchanger tubes from dripping
on generator components.
Other options your water cooled generator may have are anodes to protect against sea
water damage to the cooler, resistance temperature detectors to monitor cooler air tem-
perature and trigger an alarm at preset temperatures and a leak detector that will sound
an alarm in the event of a leak in the cooler. See your mechanical drawing and connec-
