Accessing the router through Telnet
You can make use of a console cable to perform a serial communication between the NEXPEED
NR304G-4W unit and the user's PC in order to configure the router. Also, the network-connected
users can configure the router by means of the Telnet application provided from the user's PC
through the network.
Once the router has been configured with an IP address, you can use the IP address to open a
Telnet session with the router from any computer on the same Ethernet network (or routed remote
network).
Telnet allows you to log in to the router as if you are directly connected through the console port.
You can issue commands, using the command line interface, to configure the router and perform
status monitoring from any remote location.
The NR304G-4W supports both telnet client and telnet server. Not only you can open a Telnet
session to the router from any computer, but also you can open a Telnet session to the workstation
or other router on the same Ethernet network (or remote network) from the NR304G-4W.
Note1:
To access the router using Telnet, use one of the available TCP/IP packages containing
the Telnet application. Before you can open a Telnet session to the router, you must first
set the IP address for the router using the appropriate command syntax. And verify that
there is TCP/IP connectivity between the router and your computer.
To verify the IP address of your router, enter the following command through the
console port.
(conf)# show interface

If your NR304G-4W was configured with the factory default values, it doesn’t have any
IP address.
