While the Ping test is running, and when it is over, a status field and a number of statistical items are active on
the screen. These are described below.
Status:
The current status of the Ping test. This item can display the following messages:
Packets Out:
The number of packets sent by the Ping test.
Packets In:
The number of return packets received from the target host. To be considered “on time,” return
packets are expected back before the next packet in the sequence of Ping packets is sent. A count of the
number of late packets appears in parentheses to the right of the
Packets In
count.
In the example below, a Netopia R2121 is sending Ping packets to another host, which responds with return
Ping packets. Note that the second return Ping packet is considered to be late because it is not received by the
Netopia R2121 before the third Ping packet is sent. The first and third return Ping packets are on time.

w.x.y.z, which repor ted that the test could not reach the
final destination

Couldn’t proceed with Ping test; tr y again or reset system
Couldn’t open ICMP por t
Couldn’t proceed with Ping test; tr y again or reset system
