vertical pulses are generated based on NORHD (Pin 21) and DETVD. Pulses output from IC6506 are applied
to various circuits for signals, such as INTHD to be output to VCO, sync signals for plasma display module, etc.
3. System control
(1) Microcomputer block
The microcomputer IC6800 for system control is in charge of various operation and control according to the
signals to be displayed, such as input signal changeover, adjustment of timing for output signals from the
timing controller, adjustment of the video chroma block, level control for HD decoder hue and color depth,
control of video AMP brightness and video levels, selection of digital signal processing method, control of on-
screen display data and display position, various controls of plasma display modules, fault condition judgment
within the set, and so on. During PC screen display, PC mode judgment and other operations are conducted
for the control of various blocks, based on the data of horizontal sync signal, vertical sync signal, etc. The
status of these systems is stored in the external EEPROM (IC6803). (Last memory function)
The microcomputer is provided with an S2 detection function (automatic discrimination of Terminal S system).
When a cable of Video S terminal is connected (microcomputer’s Pin 61 is turned “H”), the screen size (screen
mode) is automatically modified by the voltage at Pin 25.

The HD decoder and the video AMP are controlled through the external DA converter of IC6801 and IC6802.
Variations in the output level of the external DA converter are 0 to 12V DC at the maximum.
Pin 15 of IC6800 is a reset terminal that is connected to the reset IC (IC6804). This terminal usually operates
at 5 volts.
(2) Fault detector block
The microcomputer is in charge of fan stop, plasma display module alarming, and temperature sensor detec-
tion.
The main unit of the set is provided with four fans. The stop signal from each fan is entered in IC6807. Even
when a single fan stops, the “L” signal is sent to IC6553. The power unit is also provided with a fan. The power
fan stop signal “PM” is sent from connector’s Pin 12 to IC6806, and further transferred to IC6553. If any fan
stops, Pin 4 of the microcomputer is turned L (low) and the red LED flashes to indicate the power standby state.
JP6550 is a switch used to select whether the fan stop signal is valid or invalid. When the connector is con-
nected to Pin 1 side, detection of fan stop is made invalid. It is generally connected to Pin 3 side.
If any error occurs in a plasma display module (signal system), an alarm signal is sent to Pin 14 of the micro-
computer from Pin 79 of the “AD” connector. If this terminal is at the “L” level, red and green LEDs are recipro-
cally lit to indicate that the power supply is in the standby state.
If a temperature sensor detects any error in the power unit, a temperature sensor error signal is sent from Pin
12 of the “PM” connector to the input terminal (Pin 57) of the microcomputer’s temperature sensor via IC6808.
If the temperature sensor input terminal is at the “L” level, the green LED flashes to indicate that the power
supply is in the standby state.
(3) Remote control block
This system is applied to remote control. A light receiver block of the infrared remote control is mounted on the
POWER PWB and its signal is applied to IC6809 through the “PM” connector. The AUDIO PWB is provided
with a wired remote control input terminal and input signals are entered in IC6809 from the “AE” connector. In
IC6809, signals of the infrared remote control are generally selected. If a wired remote control is connected,
however, signals of the wired remote control are selected and sent to IC6800.
