6.3 Common problems and solutions
The diagnostic utility reports the adapter is “Not enabled by BIOS”
z PCI BIOS is not configuring the adapter correctly.
See Section 7.1 “Tips on PCI installation” on page 76 for details.
The server hangs when the driver is loaded
z Try changing the PCI BIOS interrupt settings.
See Section 7.1 “Tips on PCI installation” on page 76 for details.
POST(Power On Self Test) reports

z Try disabling the BIOS PCI Option ROM.

Diagnostics pass but the connection fails or an error occurs
z Use a twisted pair cable to connect this adapter. Especially to use for 1000 Mbps, use a
twisted pair cable of CAT 5e or better.
Also, make sure that the cable is securely attached.
z Make sure that the communication mode (full duplex/half duplex) on the adapter matches
that on link partner.
Link LED stays off
z Make sure you loaded the network driver.
z Check all connections at the adapter and link partner.
z
Try another port on the link partner (such as hub/switch).
z Make sure the communication rate on the adapter matches that on the link partner.
z Make sure that the cable between the adapter and link partner is the proper type. If you
use this adapter at 1000 Mbps, use a CAT 5e cable or better.
z Make sure no foreign object is in LAN port.
z Confirm that your twisted pair cable is 4 pair type.
The adapter stops working without apparent cause
z
Run the Intel
®
PROSet diagnostic test function.
z Try reseating PCI riser card and adapter.
z The driver files may be damaged or deleted. Remove and reinstall the driver.
If the problem persists even after you checked the above items, something may
be wrong with this adapter. Contact your sales agent.
