10.3.6 (for bronze-type release bearing) Shoulder width should not be worn below
.493" (12.522 mm.).
10.4 Release Bearing
10.4.1 Ball Type: Clean and lightly oil the bearing. Hold the inner race and slowly rotate
the outter race, feeling and listening for rough spots, catches or a sticking condition.
10.4.2 Bronze Type: Flat areas are usually worn on the trunnions. Measure the trunnion
diameter. Replace if worn to less than .730” (18.54 mm.).
10.4.3 Internal slot that straddles the release sleeve shoulder maximum width: .507
(12.88 mm.).
10.5 Bearing Carrier: (ball type release bearing only)
10.5.1 Flat areas are usually worn on the trunnions. Measure the trunnion diameter.
Replace if worn less than .730” (18.54 mm.).
10.5.2 The snapring groove must securely hold the snapring.
Basic Size .137” max. width: .147” (3.734 mm.)
Basic Size .120” max. width: .130” (3.302 mm.)
10.5.3 The bearing fit may be a sliding fit, but must be snug. A slightly tight fit is
desirable.
10.6 Facing Plates
10.6.1 Must be free of oil or grease. Must not be burned. Once burned, they normally
are incapable of holding torque.
10.6.2 Measure the amount of wear which has occurred on each friction surface (2
surfaces per facing disc). Total wear allowable in any clutch (add 2 or 4 or 6 surfaces
together) is approximately .25” (6.35 mm.). Thickness of a new facing plate is .625“
(15.875 mm.).
10.6.3 Teeth must not be worn excessively or broken.
