MultiFRAD II User Guide
(DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) options, the default route, filters, and Static Routes.
In most cases, you should not have to change the value of any timer (default TTL, reassembly
timeout, RIP response time, or RIP route aging time). The DNS Resolver is supplied for remote
Telnet clients when the router is configured for remote access and the terminal server application
is enabled.
The MultiFRAD is capable of dynamically getting an IP address for a point-to-point client on one
of its “client-only” WAN ports. Also, whether or not there is a DHCP server located on the LAN
segment, DHCP Relay Agent should be enabled if there are DHCP clients on the LAN segment
of the MultiFRAD. The IP address of either the DHCP server or the “next known” DHCP relay
agent needs to be entered in the Server Address field.
The MultiFRAD supports DNS for the Terminal Server application; therefore, the dotted decimal
IP address or domain name of the host must be specified. Enable DNS Resolver if you want the
Terminal server to support Domain names; then enter the addresses of the local DNS Server and
the DNS Root Server in the designated fields. The latter is used only if the local DNS server fails
to respond.
If you are using Default Routing, disable RIP based routing, then enter the IP host address of the
“next hop.” The MultiFRAD will automatically resolve the host address to a port number via the IP
route table.
