9. Mount the MVP Control Panel Modules
The mechanical portion of the installation consists mainly of mounting the MVP Control Module, the Dual
Chain Modules and the Feature Modules, if any, into the product display. Simply screw the MVP Control
Panel Modules into the frame using the provided screws. Refer to page 69-72 for recommended placement.
Component Wiring and Testing
Before you actually connect components to your Switching System, you need to install and connect
component connection terminals and (if switching Autosound) component Power Supplies. If you are using
the Component Turn-On feature, these connections should also be made at this time.
1. Install Component Connections
MTi recommends that you use component connection terminals mounted near your component locations,
rather than connecting components directly to Switching Modules, since it greatly simplifies component
installation and replacement later on. See page 39-53 for additional information on these and other
accessories available from MTi.
There are several methods for physically connecting components to the Matrix System
®
. MTi can provide all
the parts you need for the following methods:
1.1
PDQ Component Quick Connects -
are standard equipment on all MTi-manufactured car
stereo displays. Used for all in-dash type components, they allow the convenience of
component mounting away from the display. (See page 58 for an illustration of the PDQ.)
After removing the component drawer from the display, the component is installed into the
front panel cutout. Next, the connections are hooked up to the PDQ connector mounted at
the rear of the shelf. Then the whole drawer/component assembly is installed into the
display System.
1.2
Audio/Video Connection Panels -
mount at the back or sides of a shelf in a home audio
and/or video display, and contain all the input/output connectors needed to hook up home
audio/video components (see page 58.) Depending on the type of panels you are using,
they are mounted flush into cutouts in the shelf wall, or onto the wall itself.
1.3
Bullet Connectors -
are crimp-on connectors which may be installed onto the ends of the
array of wires that terminate near your Autosound components. One advantage of these
connectors is that many components have them already. There are male and female
versions – be sure to install the correct ends on the correct wires. The disadvantage with
Bullet Connectors is that you may end up with a confusing tangle of wires which you have
to sort out by color code and the previously mentioned
labeling!
1.4
Snap (Push) Terminals -
are multi-position terminals that make component loading easier.
Solder Switching System wires onto the underside of the terminals and then screw them
down to the mounting surface. Now it’s just a matter of inserting component wires into the
correct holes in the Snap Terminal.
1.5
Terminal Strips -
are available in several configurations, and are recommended for all
power distribution applications. Crimp or solder spade connectors to power wires (10
gauge) and attach them to one side of the Terminal Strip. Then connect components or
System wiring with spade connectors to the other side.
