2. Decrease the tightness of the
expander bolt by two or three turns
by rotating it counter-clockwise (Fig
13).
3. Fold the handlebars back to the
upright position, and close the stem
quick release. This will allow you to
properly align the stem with the front
wheel.
4. Decrease the tightness of all (4) set
screws by two or three turns (Fig 13).

5. Rotate the stem 180 degrees so that
it extends forward from the frame,
and is aligned parallel with the front
wheel.
6. With the stem aligned parallel with
the front wheel, apply a clamping
force between the top of the stem
assembly and the fork crown. This
will press the stem down onto the
headset bearings (Fig. 14).
7. While applying the clamping force,
tighten all (4) set screws around
the bottom of the stem. This will
temporarily hold the stem in place
until the expander bolt is tightened.
8. Open the stem quick release and
begin to fold the stem down to
provide access to the expander bolt.
9. Tighten the expander bolt to 120 lb•in
(13.6 N•m).
10. Unfold the stem so that it is back in
the upright position, and close the
stem quick release.
