As programs, files, data and custom settings that you save are stored in RAM, it is essential that
your WayPoint PDA receives a continuous power supply. Although the operating system and pre-
installed programs will be unaffected, you will have to re-enter all other information if your WayPoint
PDA loses power.
•
Safeguard your data by regularly backing up your files. See 4.2.4 “
Backing Up and
Restoring Data Using Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7
”. Data and personal settings stored in PIM
can also be backed up to CF storage card, SD storage card, or the Flash Disk using the
backup application.
•
Change from battery to AC power or external vehicle DC power as soon as you receive a
low battery warning.
•
Save important information on Flash Disk, CompactFlash or SecureDigital cards rather
than in RAM. The card contents will not be lost if your battery is exhausted.
•
Some functions, such as playing music and using CompactFlash or SecureDigital cards,
are power intensive. Avoid using these if your battery is low and you are unable to switch
to external power. Remove or turn off CF I/O devices when they are not needed.
•
Turn off the display when playing audio files. See 3.5 “
Playing Audio and Video
”.
•
Use the Suspend function in the power control panel whenever you are not using your
WayPoint PDA.
•
Use AC power when synchronizing with your PC.
•
Adjust the settings for automatically turning off your WayPoint PDA after a period of
inactivity by tapping “
Settings
” > ”
Power
” on the start menu.
•
Before removing the main battery from your WayPoint PDA, ensure that the internal
backup battery is well charged. See 2.4.4 “
Maintaining the Batteries
”.
•
To extend battery life, reduce the backlight setting (see below).
•
The battery status should be checked often when running on batteries. It can be reached
from Start > Settings > System > Power.
