PRODUCT PROGRAMMING

Midian’s GPS-2 IC2 is programmed via Midian’s KL-4 programming interface and MPS software.

Go  to  our  website  midians.com  and  under  downloads>  software  download  the  latest  MPS  software  version.  If
using the supplied CD-ROM insert it into the PC’s CD-ROM drive. In the browser that will pop-up, install the MPS
programming  software.  Be  certain  that  the  “Install  KL-4  USB  Driver”  box  is  checked  during  the  installation
process.

Open Windows’ Control Panel and go to Device Manager.

Open Ports (COM& LPT) to identify the port assignment issued by computer. Plug in the KL4 programmer to the
USB port and the screen will flash and show the device location.

From the product selection screen on the programming software, select the appropriate GPS-2 product from the
list  and  click  OK.  Set  the  parameters  of  the  GPS-2  IC2  software  to  fit  the  application.    If  any  clarifications  on  a
feature  are  required,  move  the  mouse  cursor  over  the  feature  name  until  the  question  mark  appears  and  right
click, a definition of the feature will be shown.

After  the  latest  MPS  has  been  installed  default  programming  files  for  specific  radio  models  can  be  found  at:
C:\Apps\Midian\MPS\MPS_v5_xx\Additional Default Files\GPS-2\Icom

After entering the parameters, save the file by going to File - Save As.  Enter the file name in the File Name block
and click Save.  Saving the file will allow for quick and easy reprogramming of units.

KL-4 Programming:

Plug the board onto the KL-4’s IC2 connector P3.  Push and hold the power button on the

KL-4 and click “Program Unit” in the programming software.

KL-4 Reading:

Plug the board onto the KL-4’s IC2 connector P3.  Push and hold the power button on the KL-4

and click “Read Unit” in the programming software.

Note:

The GPS-2 IC2 has  a system I.D.  which is a 6  digit hexadecimal number defaulted to 4D6964, the  CAD-

800 is also defaulted to this I.D. It is recommended to change this to a unique number for privacy reasons. When
using a unique I.D. the CAD-800 will also need to be programmed with the same system I.D.

Important Note:

When using a unique system I.D. do not attempt to ‘clone’ the GPS-2 board by reading one

and then programming another.  When the GPS-2 board is read, the system I.D. will

not

be

read out, but will

be displayed as “4D6964” in the MPS. If another GPS-2 board is then cloned with this information, it  will be
programed with the default system I.D. and  be incompatible  with the  CAD-800.  To ensure the GPS-2 board
stays compatible with the CAD-800 always program them from a saved

file.
