Appendix A: UPGRADING THE StartREC 400
The StartREC 400 maintains its operating system (O.S.) in Flash ROM. Reading software from special firmware
upgrade CDs into the StartREC 400’s internal Flash ROM can update the operating system.

CAUTION: Upgrading the O.S. erases
all
data in
all
hard drive blocks! Make sure
you save any needed data before upgrading.
To upgrade the StartREC 400:
1. Press and hold the
OK/ENTER
key while turning on power to the StartREC 400.
2. Keep holding the key until the display shows:
PROGRAM DISC to
MASTER DRIVE !
3. The Master CD tray opens automatically. Insert the manufacturer’s firmware update disc.
CAUTION: Use only factory-approved firmware discs. Attempting to upgrade with a
non-firmware disc may damage the StartREC 400
.
4. Press on the CD tray’s
CLOSE
button to close the tray.
5. After a few seconds, the StartREC 400 reads the disc and displays the firmware version. If this number is higher
than that of your existing firmware, press the
OK/Enter
key.
6. The display shows:
UPDATE
7. After loading the software, the StartREC 400 ejects the firmware disc, and reboots using the new operating system.
