· Do not change any parts.
· Ensure that the speed indicated on the saw
blade is at least the same as the speed
indicated on the saw.
Hazard generated by machine defects!
· Before every use check the machine for
possible damage: before operating the machine
all safety devices, protective guards or slightly
damaged parts need to be checked for proper
function as specified. Check to see that all
moving parts work properly and do not jam. All
parts must be correctly installed and fulfil all
conditions necessary to ensure perfect
operation of the unit.
· Do not used any damaged or contorted saw
blades.
Risk of injury by noise!
· Wear hearing protection.
Risk of injury by laser radiation!
· Laser beams can cause serious injuries to the
eye. Never look into the laser outlet.
Danger from blocking workpieces or
workpiece parts!
If blockage occurs:
1. switch machine off,
2. unplug mains cable,
3. wear gloves,
4. Clear the blockage using a suitable tool.

4.3 Safety Devices
Retractable blade guard (11)
The retractable blade guard protects against
unintentional contact with the saw blade and from
chips flying about.
The retractable blade guard
opens and the
saw can be lowered only when the safety lock is
activated.
Bore for padlock
The bore in the on/off switch
allows the switch
to be locked with a padlock.
Parallel guide / ripping fence
The parallel guide / ripping fence
(consisting
of the lower, fixed fences and the upper,
adjustable fences
) prevents that the
workpiece can be moved during sawing. During
operation, the parallel guide/ ripping fence always
has to be installed.
Make sure that the adjustable fences
are set
correctly to support the workpiece and will not
interfere with the blade or the guard. Lock using
the set screws
Incorrectly adjusted additional fences can, in the
event of sloped cuts and double mitre cuts, get in
contact with the saw blade and thus lead to
serious injuries!
KGS 254 I Plus: overload protection
The motor has an overload protection which
switches off the motor in case of overheating.
To restart, the motor must have cooled down and
the unlock button
must be pressed.

6.1 Unpacking
Lift device up out of the packaging with help from
a second person.
6.2 Assembling
Mounting the locking handle (fig. A)
Insert the locking handle
and screw in.
Mounting the table width extension (fig. B)
1. Remove the right and left table width
extension
from the transport packaging.
2. Remove screws at the guide rails (of the right
and left table width extension).
Note: The table width extension with the smaller
support surface must be installed on the right
side.
3. Press and hold the locking button
4. Push the guide rails of the table width
extensions
completely
into the recesses.
5. Lift the device at the front legs, carefully swivel
it backwards and put it down so it will not fall
over.
6. Tighten again the screws at the guide rails.
7. Take the front legs of the device, carefully
swivel it forwards and put down.
8. For additional stability: Set the adjusting screw
in such a way that it makes contact with
the base.
Set required table width
The table width extension can be locked in
several positions. Adjusting the table width
extension from one locking position to the nearest
one:
1. Press and hold the locking button
2. Pull out the table width extension
for
about 5 mm.
3. Release the locking button
4. Slowly continue to pull out the table width
extension
until the table width extension
engages in the closest locking position.
Mounting the cutting depth limitation (fig. C)
Together with the pulling device the cutting depth
limitation
permits the cutting of grooves.
· Mount the lock nut
as
shown.
6.3 Transporting
1. Swivel saw head downwards and engage
.
2. Push adjustable parallel guides / ripping
fences
inwards and secure with on the
fence extrusion and secure with the set screw
.
3. Push the table width extensions
inwards.
Caution!
Do not hold the saw at the protective installations
during transport.
4. Lift the device on two of the points provided
(arrows in
fig. F)
.
6.4 Setting up
The device has to be mounted on a stable
support for safe working.
– The support can either be a fixed worktop or
workbench or one of the Metabo stands (see
chapter11. “Accessories“).
– Even when machining larger workpieces the
device has to have a secure stand.
– Long workpieces must get additional support
with suitable accessories.
Note:
For mobile use, the device can also be fixed to a
plywood or coreboard panel (500 mm x 500 mm,
at least 19 mm thick) using screws. During use,
the panel has to be fixed to a work bench using
screw clamps.
1. Screw device tightly to the base (through the
holes in the feet).
2. push the saw head slightly downwards and
hold.
3. Undo transport lock
4. Swivel saw head slightly upwards.
7.1 On/off switch motor
Switching on the motor:
